It’s time to put on those dancing shoes because a new date for Broadway’s revival of The Music Man has been announced.

Starring Hugh Jackman and Younger’s Sutton Foster, the highly-anticipated show was originally set for an October release.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the musical to temporarily close the curtain on production.

But Hugh has since confirmed that the musical will return to Broadway’s Winter Garden Theater next year, with previews starting on April 7, 2021.

On Thursday, the 51-year-old actor posted the new dates on Instagram, as well as a statement addressing the delay.

‘Performing on Broadway is a great honour for an actor; in fact one of the greatest,’ he wrote.

‘No two shows are exactly alike, in large part due to the audience. Show One is filled with anticipation, fear and excitement. It’s like an opening night eight times a week; the energy is palpable,’ he added.

‘It is those same feelings that happen every show thereafter – and you and I are going through it together.’

Hugh said the change of dates wouldn’t ‘take any of that away,’ but the decision to delay production was to ensure the safety of everyone involved amid the pandemic.

‘What it will do however, is to help ensure that The Music Man audiences and our company are in a completely safe environment. Can’t wait for that day!’ He concluded.

The Music Man tells the story of travelling salesman Harold Hill, who poses as a music professor to con a naive midwestern town into giving him money for instruments to organise a band.

Harold plans to skip town with the money, but his plan is thrown into chaos when he falls for local librarian Marian.

Hugh stars as conman Harold and Sutton plays Marian in the musical revival.
