WHAT IS IT LIKE? Following a multi-million pound renovation, the third Duke of Marlborough’s old hunting lodge opened in June as The Langley, a luxurious hotel just west of London.
A classic Palladian building of Victorian mosaic floors and a pink atrium, surrounded by acres of Capability Brown parkland. Inside, the highlights include an outdoor heated pool, a wood-panelled bar and basement spa offering treatments, tubs and another whopping pool.

ROOMS ANY GOOD? Lovely. There are three styles: princely first-floor chambers, white-walled loft rooms and rustic, country-style options in the nearby Brew House.
EAT HERE OR GRAB A PIZZA? The on-site Cedar restaurant is inventive and high-quality. After crunchy lobster rolls enlivened by chives and grapefruit, we relished butter-soft wagyu rib slices beside sweet beetroot. Pre-dinner cocktails are also recommended – the Langley Spritz’s blend of sherry, jasmine tea and rosemary liqueur is heavenly. At breakfast, alongside a buffet, our favourite hot plate involved toasted brioche under caramelised, cinnamon-spiced apple.
WHAT ELSE? We had an expertly-delivered massage, selecting a vanilla-scented Sisley oil, and then further de-stressed in a Himalayan salt sauna. A six-person cinema room and cookery classes are both due in the autumn.
