It’s certainly a tough act to follow.
The Crown season 3 star Olivia Colman may have an Academy Award for Best Actress after her turn as Queen Anne in The Favourite, but portraying Queen Elizabeth II after the much-adored turn by Claire Foy in the first two seasons of the Netflix hit is quite a daunting task.
Colman told Entertainment Weekly: “It’s horrendous. Everyone loves Claire Foy, so I have got the worst job in the world at the moment. You’re saying all the worst things, thanks!””
She joked that she attempted to mimic Foy early in filming, revealing: “Yes, actually. Maybe it was a stroke of genius that I was doing that.
“That’s what it was! Yes, that was preplanned!”
The feature with Entertainment Weekly also had Helena Bonham Carter speak about her own family connection to her role as Princess Margaret, which she takes over from Vanessa Kirby, and what Princess Margaret once said to her.
Meanwhile, The Crown creator Peter Morgan spoke about the decision to change casts and believes it is still the right call.
Peter Morgan said: “I thought, ‘It’s quite interesting to do a young queen, a middle-aged queen, and an old queen.
“Originally, when I went to Netflix, I was pitching it as three seasons. It just kept growing.”
The writer added: “By the time we got to the end with Claire and Matt, I think they were ready to go somewhere else.”
Well, fans are already excited to see Colman take on the role of The Queen as they reacted to the first teaser for season 3.
