It was the iconic teen drama of the 90s Australia couldn’t get enough of.

And now the cast of Heartbreak High have discussed rumours that it will be getting a reboot 26 years after it originally aired.

Appearing on Today Extra, cast mates, Abi Tucker, Salvatore Coco and Corey Page, hinted at the potential project.

‘There are rumours exciting ones I think,’ Abi, who played Jodie Cooper, said.

‘It is my understanding that there is a Dutch company called NewBe that’s partnering or teaming up with a production company in Australia.’

This follows reports by TV Tonight back in March that Fremantle will be producing the series comeback.

Heartbreak High ran for seven seasons and followed the lives of the students of Hartley High in a multicultural suburb of Sydney.

The series was ahead of it’s time, airing topical issues such sex, drugs, racism, religion, family, education and homelessness in it’s plot lines.

And Abi says that a whole new generation could benefit from a reboot of Heartbreak High as those issues are still relevant today.

‘I think, you know, its a really great time for Heartbreak High to readdress some of those issues, you know, because they do affect kids of this age and they certainly did when we were younger,’ she said.

‘So it would be very exciting if that were the case and we will see what happens.’

Heartbreak High starred some of the biggest names in Australian television, including Ada Nicodemou, Alex Dimitriades, Scott Major and Callan Mulvey.

It was first aired on Channel 10 from 1994 to 1996 before it was moved to the ABC from 1997 until it was axed in 1999.
