Emma Barton had opened up about the bizarre nickname that she has acquired since Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood likened her to a “sack of potatoes”.
Appearing on This Morning today with professional partner Anton du Beke, Emma revealed that fellow contestant Michelle Visage has started calling her something very unusual.
She said: “Miche calls me ‘sacka’. It’s the way she goes ‘sacka!’ I think it was after the Paso Doble and Craig said, ‘Darling, you look like a sack of potatoes’. Which we all did laugh about.”
“Eventually,” Anton quipped.
Emma continued: “And then she came up with ‘sacka’ and that’s my nickname. And you know what, that’s lovely. You’ve got to turn things around.
You’ve got to laugh at life, you can’t take it all too seriously.”
During the interview, Holly also said that she found Shirley’s criticism of Emma and Anton “tough to watch” and said that she thought they deserved 10s.
Professional dancer Anton interrupted head judge Shirley after she blasted the lack of timing in their Rumba routine.
Despite that, the pair made it through to this week without being in the dance-off.
As the pair appeared on This Morning, Holly admitted that she was shocked over the criticism and found it “tough to watch”
She said: “I found it really, really tough to watch, I have to say. I thought it was brilliant!
“We were trying to guess the scores with the kids… I mean, we were going, ‘There’s going to be 10s here!’ I loved it! So I was really shocked and you must have been a bit?”
“Yeah, I was disappointed,” Emma conceded. “I know it wasn’t our best dance but it wasn’t the worst.”
Anton and Emma landed at the bottom of the leaderboard after failing to impress the judges, scoring just 22.
In particular, Shirley was critical of their performance, scoring them just five for the dance.
So Anton and Emma were ecstatic after their names were called out, revealing that they had been saved from the dance-off.
Anton collapsed in shock as a stunned Emma signed “thank you” to viewers at home.
Later, speaking to host Claudia Winkleman, Emma said: “I’m totally shocked, I can’t speak… I’m overwhelmed with happiness.”
Anton added: “I’m just so delighted because I would have hated for us to be in the dance-off on that dance because I thought that Emma danced that beautifully. And so, well done you.”
One fan tweeted: “#Strictly Hahaha Anton’s reaction, have that Ballas!!!!!”
While another commented: “Emma & Anton through. Take that, Shirley ha! #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.”
On Saturday, Shirley was not happy when she was interrupted for a second week in a row by Anton during her ‘harsh’ critique of Emma.
EastEnders star Emma and pro Anton performed the Rumba this evening but failed to impress the judges.
In particular Shirley, who began by saying: “First of all I want to say that you’re tall and elegant and you have everything it takes to do a Rumba before I say what I’m about to say-“
“There’s no need to say anymore,” Anton interjected.
Shirley continued, clearly vexed: “The only timing that I could read was the basic – the alemana and the sliding doors… the rest of it I have absolutely no idea on what count you were dancing for this dance.”
Despite being booed, Shirley said: “There are four beats and three steps – you have to understand that.”
“Sometimes there are four steps and three beats,” Anton interrupted again. “Sometimes there are five steps and seven beats. Sometimes there are no steps!”
The pair continued to talk over one another as Emma looked close to tears over the criticism.
And fans were fuming over Emma’s harsh critique, with one tweeting: ” am i f***ing missing something here? emma and anton danced brilliantly yet the judges haven’t barely given her one compliment. it’s a disgrace to hold them to a different level to everyone else on the show. #strictly.”
While another commented: “Trying to figure out how Shirley can give Emma and anton a 5 and Mike a 8 she’s so biased! #strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.”
