Spoiler warning for Stranger Things 3
The epic finale for Stranger Things season 3 on Netflix saw some major casualties hit the troubled town of Hawkins, Indiana.
Resident bad boy Billy Hargrove (Dacre Montgomery) fought against the evil of the Mind-Flayer before being killed and sharing a heartfelt goodbye to his step-sister Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink)
Heroic cop Chief Jim Hopper ( David Harbour ) appeared to be engulfed by an explosion caused by Joyce Byers ( Winona Ryder ) in a bid to close the portal to the Upside Down.
Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) was devastated to lose her adopted father, but many fans remain convinced he is alive after the end credits scene spoke of a captive “American” in a Russian base that also houses a Demogorgon.
Now TV Line has revealed that actor David Harbour is indeed contracted for a fourth season of the series.
Does this mean that Hopper will be back?
Most likely, but not necessarily alive, as dead characters have made appearances in hallucinatory forms or flashbacks before, such as with stars Sean Astin and Matthew Modine .
We would take more encouragement of Hopper’s survival from the fact that show creators The Duffer Brothers previously told fans to “not assume anything” in regards to his apparent death.
Another major clue that Hopper will be back was also dropped by star Millie Bobby Brown, who told Entertainment Weekly of filming: “I just immediately wanted to put a camera on me and find the way I react and the way I reacted was pure devastation and sadness, and a distraught child that just lost her father or so she thinks. So it was definitely a raw emotion.”
Or so she thinks, eh?
Stranger Things 3 is available now on Netflix.
