The summer really did change everything.
Netflix series Stranger Things season 3 sees the Hawkins crew enjoying the more normal aspects of growing up – romance, friendship, the sunshine – but threats lurk behind every corner as a result of the evils in the Upside Down.
Can Eleven ( Millie Bobby Brown ) and her friends survive the evil threats?
The season comes to a dramatic ending in the finale The Battle of Starcourt, but there’s more to the ending than appears.
That’s right, there’s an end credits scene, well, a mid-credits scene to be exact, which adds to what goes down in the climactic episode and teases the plot lines for season 4.
So what exactly happened in the scene? Here is what you need to know.
WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR STRANGER THINGS 3
Stranger Things 3 end credits scene explained
In a mid-credits scene, Stranger Things 3 takes us to a top-secret facility in Kamachatka, Russia.
Earlier in the season we had been introduced more mysterious Russian characters with sinister but ambiguous motives.
With plans to leave “The American” in his cell, a guard drags down Alexei from earlier in the season (shown at the Hess house) down to a cage underground.
The guard opens the cage and emerging from the hatch we see a Demogorgon.
Hinting that the Upside Down has not been entirely cut off from our world, we also have the additional danger from the mysterious Russian facility to contend with, leaving us with a central mystery.
Additionally, who is the mysterious prisoner referred to as “The American”?
A potential candidate has to be Sheriff Jim Hopper ( David Harbour ), who appeared to be killed in the explosion that closed the portal to the Upside Down at the end of season 3.
But the facility was an underground Russian one, so could he have survived or was later revived by the Russians?
We will have to wait and see!
Stranger Things 3 is available on Netflix.
