Steyer Quits Liberal Dem Think Tank

Billionaire Tom Steyer, a Democratic presidential candidate, has resigned from the board of the Center for American Progress, CNBC is reporting.

CAP is a liberal think tank founded by John Podesta, who served as White House chief of staff to President Bill Clinton. Steyer stepped down when he decided to run for president, according to CNBC.

“I hereby tender my resignation as a director of the Center for American Progress effective Tuesday July 9th, 2019,” he wrote in a letter.

Steyer announced his bid for the White House on the same day.

CNBC noted Steyer has been distancing himself from entities that could be seen as giving his campaign an advantage. Last month, he also walked away from NextGen America.

CAP calls itself a nonpartisan progressive policy institute “that is dedicated to improving the lives of all Americans, through bold, progressive ideas, as well as strong leadership and concerted action,” according to CNBC.
