Somerset House ice skating – when does it open and where can you get tickets?


THIS year, Somerset House will be celebrating 20 years of hosting an ice rink on its beautiful courtyard over the Christmas season.

But when will the rink open and where can you get tickets? Here’s the lowdown…

This year sees Somerset House open an ice rink on its courtyard for the 20th year in a row[/caption]

When does the rink open?

The rink will return to Somerset House TODAY – November 13.

Sessions will run from 10am or 11am until 9.45pm or 10.45pm, depending on the day.

Tickets cost £11 for an adult and £8.50 for children aged 12 and under plus a transaction fee of £2.95 per order.

The rink will remain in place until January 12.

Where can you get tickets?

Tickets are available from the Somerset House website.

They can also be booked by phone on 0333 320 2836, with lines open Monday- Saturday 9am- 9pm and Sunday 9am- 8pm.

A limited number of tickets will also be released each day to be purchased from the onsite box office.

A ten percent family discount is being offered to groups of two adults and two children or one adult and three children.

What else is on offer?

Besides skating, there will be classic winter foods including raclette, fondue, and mince pies as well as champagne and mulled wine.

A series of Skate Late events will also see a host of local and international DJs taking over the rink-side decks.

If you’re a novice skater, Skate Mates can be booked for groups of 3 to 15 at a cost of £35.

Skate Mates aren’t skating instructors, but can provide assistance if you want some extra support.

Where is Somerset House?

Somerset House is large neoclassical building built in 1776 and situated between the River Thames and the Strand in central London.

Its address is Somerset House, Strand, London, WC2R 1LA.

The nearest tube station is Temple, and it is also a short walk from Covent Garden and Charing Cross.

The building’s many tenants include Kings College London, the British Fashion Council, and the Royal Society of Literature.
