Avery Goelz earns first-team honors; Claire Davidson lands a berth on the second team
A pair of Lakewood Ranch High softball players were recently named to the USA Today All-USA first and second team.
First baseman Avery Goelz earned first-team honors after hitting .543 with 16 doubles, 6 triples, 9 home runs, 47 runs batted in and 47 runs scored this past season.
Outfielder/pitcher Claire Davidson received a berth on second-team. The left-handed hitter and pitcher batted .439 with 12 doubles, 13 homers, 47 RBI and 23 runs. She also went 10-0 with two saves and a 0.57 earned run average in 13 games with 71 strikeouts in 61⅔ innings.
Both are juniors for the Mustangs, who ended the 2019 season 30-1 while finishing as state runner-up in Class 8A.
Lakewood Ranch also finished first in the state and sixth in the country, according to MaxPreps.
