Rangers fans were not too impressed with their boss when he returned out for the second half of the legends match still in a Liverpool shirt.
The former Liverpool captain started the match for the Reds and hinted that he might have a cameo in Rangers blue and he did eventually live up to his promise.
And ‘Gers supporters were desperate to see Gerrard switch sides at the interval, something that did not happen.
They took to Twitter to vent their frustration at the move, reminding him off his pre-match comments.
Another said: “If Gerrard doesn’t get the Royal Blue on, we riot!”
Gerrard hinted earlier in the week that he could make a cameo appearance in the famous blue shirt.
“I always look forward to a game of football,” he said.
“I’m going to play for Liverpool and who knows, there might be a little cameo in a blue shirt as well we’ll have to see.”
One fan tweeted: “Eh gerrard that doesny look like a rangers top to me.”
Another angered: “Thought Gerrard was playing for Rangers second half? F****** turncoat.”
A third wrote: “If we don’t make Gerrard a Rangers player on the 55th minute we’ve missed a big opportunity.”
While a fourth added: “Gerrard isn’t going to put the Rangers shirt on until he scores.”
Rangers fans were clearly holding onto that statement as Gerrard left the field in the 76th minute.
He did however finally return in Rangers kit in the 82nd minute, after patiently waiting on the touchline for the ball to go out of play.
Gerrard has been earmarked as a surprise target for Besiktas, with their manager Abdullah Avci under pressure.
Turkish football journalist Mehmet Demirkol told BeIN Sports on Friday that Gerrard is one of the coaches they’re looking at.
Istanbul is a city that brings back special memories for Gerrard, it’s where he lifted the 2005 Champions League trophy with Liverpool.
