Saying the “president is on his way to re-election,” media polling is done cheaply and will prove wrong again as it doubles down on “poor science” and oversampling of Democrats, according to President Donald Trump pollster John McLaughlin.
“The polls, when they’re not done well, and they’re done as cheaply and inefficiently as they were done back in 2016, they’re going to be wrong again,” McLaughlin told “The Cats Roundtable” on 970 AM-N.Y. “They’re doubling down on poor science.
“And they don’t know how to analyze these Trump voters, because they don’t like talking to the media, because they know the media is like 99% negative coverage of the president.”
McLaughlin, the president’s pollster for years, told host John Catsimatidis the real scientific polls that get to the likely voters on the state-by-state level are harder to do, because they are expensive and something the media cannot afford.
“I truly believe the president is on his way to re-election,” McLaughlin told Catsimatidis, pointing to the magic number of 51% job approval ratings for former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama on re-election day.
“The Democrats are doing everything they can to stop Trump, to derail his agenda, to keep him from doing things, precisely to keep his job approval from going over 50%. And he’s in the high 40s in most polls. But the likely voter poll this past Wednesday, in Rasmussen, their poll had the president’s job approval among likely voters at 51%.
“And the Democrats are going off the deep end.”
A crowded Democratic field is currently looking to whittle down furthest “to the left in nominating an extremist,” which will make “the president is a good bet,” according to McLaughlin.
“The Democrats, it’s a derangement derby, where they’re so perplexed by President Trump — not just the fact that they couldn’t believe he won last time — but now that they can’t believe he’s such a successful president where people do like his policies and they do like what he’s accomplishing,” he said.
But the Democratic field, I think, they’re trying to nominate the most anti-Trump candidate in the field, and, by doing so, they are nominating somebody who’s extreme radical liberal and really out of touch with the values of mainstream America. They stand for open borders, high taxes, fewer jobs. If they’re running against Trump, they’re running against success.
“And that’s a prescription for failure for them.”
