‘We’re desperate to celebrate together’: Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones can’t wait to party with Paul Mescal and admits it’s been ‘very odd’ to find fame during lockdown

Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones has admitted that she feels she’s missed out on celebrating the show’s huge success.

Speaking to Vogue, the actress said she and her co-star Paul Mescal are ‘desperate’ to meet up and celebrate properly after being forced to promote the show during lockdown.

Daisy and Paul have won huge critical acclaim and the hearts of fans across the world for their portrayal of Maianne and Connell in the adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel.

But while the BBC and Hulu adaptation has scored record viewing figures, the stars have been celebrating in lockdown, with promotional events cancelled for the series.

Daisy admitted to Vogue it has been ‘very odd’ to find fame during the pandemic, explaining: ‘It’s hard to differentiate between the strangeness for me specifically and the strangeness for everyone.’

‘I don’t know exactly what will happen after everything (hopefully) goes back to normal. We went to the PGA Awards, but we weren’t able to do anything around promotion of the show, and I am really excited to experience some of that.’

Despite not being able to attend events and interviews together in person, Daisy added that she has actually managed to be in constant contact with her hunky co-star Paul.

‘I’ve seen so much of Paul Mescal, but it’s been via Zoom,’ she pointed out. ‘And we’re desperate to celebrate together after going through the whole filming process as a team. It’s odd not to be able to experience this part of the process together, but we can’t wait to hang out with all our friends from the show.’

As for her other post-lockdown hopes, Daisy said she couldn’t wait to go to the pub now they have reopened in the UK, gushing: ‘I’m really looking forward to having an actual poured pint. I didn’t think that would ever be something I was looking forward to!’
