PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has issued a stark warning to his squad vowing to clamp down on “celebrity behaviour.”
PSG walked Ligue 1 again last season, but with the wealth of talent at new boss Thomas Tuchel’s disposal, Al-Khelaifi was expecting to go all the way in the Champions League.
But for the second time in three years, the French champions threw away a commanding first-leg lead in Europe’s elite competition.
In 2017 they were 4-0 up going into the second leg against Barcelona and were knocked out losing 6-1 at the Nou Camp.
And it happened again this year throwing away a two-goal lead to crash out against Manchester United at the Parc de Princes in March.
But the return of Leonardo as sporting director replacing Antero Henrique has allowed the club president to lay down the law to Neymar and the rest of the Champions League flops.
Al-Khelaifi told France Football: “Players will have to assume their responsibilities even more than before. It must be completely different.
“They will have to do more, work more.
“They are not there to please themselves.
“And if they do not agree, the doors are open. Ciao! I do not want to have any celebrity behaviour anymore.”
And on the return of Leonardo to the club after six years: “I realized that changes were essential, otherwise we were going nowhere.
