Nadia Sawalha believes women who can’t afford to look after their baby should stop having kids.

The Loose Women panellist was applauded for her views during a debate on whether grandparents should charge for babysitting in today’s pre-recorded episode.

Nadia, 54, thanked her mother for looking after her kida when they were little, but admitted it wasn’t a viable option for everyone.

The former EastEnders star explained that she had a friend who assumed her mother would look after her second child.

Insisting it wasn’t fair on grandparents, she said: “That is a massive deal. To ask someone in their 70s to look after a two-year-old and then a baby.

Nadia gave her honest views on the show

“The thing is, if you cant afford to look after the baby or pay somebody then I don’t think you can have another one.”

The audience applauded Nadia, while fellow panellist Saira Khan agreed, arguing that grandparents should not automatically be expected to look after their grandkids.

Nadia confessed that her mum grew frustrated when people asked if she was proud to be a grandmother while she was pregnant.

She got a round of applause from the audience

Nadia said: “When I was pregnant my mum said ‘if one more person asks if I’m proud to be a grandmother I will slap them. It has nothing to do with me at all’.

“And that’s fair enough. She’d had three children at a time where she didn’t have a washing machine or a car. She was worn out.

“She loves her grandhcilren but she didn’t want to be a mother all over again. I don’t think that necessarily comes as part of the deal. That you’re a mother and you’re a mother again.”

Nadia explained that she did used to leave her kids with her mum all the time and praised her for her support.

She added: “I feel we can fall into the danger of having a child and thinking they’re gorgeous and want to spend every minute with them and assuming your mother and father will.”

This comes after Nadia opened up about her family life during a special look back on her time before Loose Women during Monday’s episode.

Nadia got very emotional on Monday’s Loose Women

Discussing her sister Julia, Nadia said: “She is totally amazing. She’s really amazing my younger sister but we’ve always had a really volatile relationship.

“So we’ve always had periods of time in our life where we don’t speak. I always say I have the best time or the worst time of my life with her. It’s the same with both my sisters.

“My dad always says ‘formidable women’. That’s all he wanted. He came to this country with £50 in his pocket because he wanted six daughters who were free.

“His sister was married at 14. He said ‘I want strong, independent, professional women that follow their dreams.

“What he got was three very independent, difficult women. Because of that we have a very intense on and off relationship.”
