MasterChef judge Melissa Leong reveals the most disgusting thing she’s ever eaten

As a food critic, Melissa Leong is in the business of tasting dishes.

But not everything the celebrity eaten has been up to standard.

In a recently unearthed interview with Studio 10, the 38-year-old MasterChef judge revealed the ‘grossest’ thing she’s ever had to eat.

‘The thing is, I try not to think about food in terms of attractiveness or grossness or things like that, but I just really like to explore food,’ she explained during the August 2018 interview.

But after being pressed by the show’s hosts to reveal the most disgusting thing she’s ever eaten, Melissa confessed it was probably ‘lamb testicles’.

‘I have eaten some very interesting things…’ she admitted, before claiming the testicles tasted ‘just like chicken’.

She said they were ‘cut quite fine and crumbed like a schnitzel’ before being ‘fried’.

‘[It’s’] kind of a bit like sweetbread, so a little bit sort of spongey in texture,’ she continued.

In the culinary world, sweetbread is used to describe the the thymus or pancreas from a calf or lamb.

Melissa said she’s also a fan of ‘nose to tail eating’, claiming that it’s ethically responsible to eat as much of the animal as possible to justify its slaughter.

'The thing is, I try not to think about food in terms of attractiveness or grossness or things like that, but I just really like to explore food,' she explained. Pictured with fellow MasterChef judges Jock Zonfrillo (centre) and Andy Allen (far right)

‘I think that nose to tail eating is a thing we’ve seen in food for quite some years now, and I think if you are going to eat meat, then you should dignify the animal by eating as much of it as you can,’ she explained.

In an interview with The Guardian in May, Melissa spoke about her new role as a judge on MasterChef and the power of good food.

‘The one thing I love about this show is that it’s all about the joy of food, the connection that food brings,’ she said.
