Man Utd stopper David De Gea donates £270,000 towards coronavirus efforts in Spain


MANCHESTER UNITED keeper David De Gea has been outed for donating £270,000 to Spain’s fight against coronavirus – after making the gift anonymously.

The keeper stands tall between the sticks – and once more is standing firm with his nation in a time of tragedy, having given £175k last November aftre storms killed seven people.

Now the former Atletico Madrid star has followed big names in footbal like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Pep Guardiola in helping combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

De Gea, 29, is thought to have quietly made his latest donation to the local authority in his home city, Spanish capital Madrid, one of Europe’s worst-hit regions

But the gesture was made public by Community of Madrid president Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

She tweeted: “Thank you De Gea. The great help you have provided to the Community of Madrid will be key to fighting COVID-19. Eternally grateful, proud of you.”

He gave money for medical equipment and helping vulnerable families.

Spain’s death toll from cornavirus of almost 3,500 is second only to Italy’s, well ahead of originating country China and the USA, which now has the most cases overall.

Meanwhile, teamed up with rivals City for a £100k donation to fight the pandemic.

And De Gea’s club-mate Marcus Rashford is spearheading a campaign to help feed all children while schools are largely shut.

Barcelona main man Messi, Juventus superstar Ronaldo and Etihad chief Guardiola have led football’s rally against coronavirus.

Messi helped fund a hospital clinic in Barcelona and a medical centre in Argentina with £500k..

Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes gave around £900,000 for three intensive care units in their native Portugal.

And Guardiola gave a similar sum for vital medical gear in Spain.
