Manchester United are currently being let down by their lack of star quality in the team.
That’s the opinion of Man Utd expert Mark Ogden.
United are currently 12th in the Premier League after another disappointing defeat on Sunday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side lost 1-0 at St James’ Park thanks to a Matty Longstaff screamer.
That defeat leaves them just three points off the relegation spots, with a difficult mountain to climb if they are to achieve a top-six finish.
Solskjaer’s squad has been heavily hit by injuries, with Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jesse Lingard and Luke Shaw all out of contention.
Their squad was already depleted going into the Premier League season, with Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez both leaving for Inter Milan, leaving Marcus Rashford as the only option up front.
And Ogden explained on ESPN FC that the club is currently struggling from a lack of star power.
“Who in that team would you turn to when it’s going tough in November and December and you’re playing Everton away?” he asked.
“If you’re a kid, as a Man Utd supporter, who’s shirt do you buy? If you’re a City fan you buy [Sergio] Aguero’s, if you’re a Liverpool fan it’s [Mohamed] Salah, but United are a team of no stars.
“You can talk about Pogba all you like but he doesn’t perform like a star.
“If you’re in a battle for points, who in that Man Utd team has the quality to get you out of it?
“I don’t think they’ll get relegated, maybe that’s because they’re Man Utd, if you put those 11 players in Watford shirts, then yeah you don’t bat an eyelid.”
United have the toughest game of the season in their first game back from the international break, as they face league leaders Liverpool.
They are, however, likely to have Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jesse Lingard back for their game against the Reds.
