Amber Gill finally explained what she meant by her “dead ting” comment on tonight’s Love Island .

During a very awkward lunch date with Joanna Chimonides, Amber tried to justify her use of the nasty insult.

On Wednesday night, Amber seemed to keep using the term in reference to Joanna’s looks.

So viewers were confused when Amber claimed: “Dead ting can mean a variety of things.

“It doesn’t necessarily mean I was commenting on your looks. I thought the way you handled that situation, you had every opportunity to speak and you didn’t. I was irritated after that.”

Joanna admitted she felt offended

Love Island viewers took to Twitter to call Amber out for her explanation.

One viewer said: “Amber is waffling how can ‘dead ting’ be in relation to anything other than looks? Maybe in Newcastle but not London sis”

Another asked: “The fact that Amber tried to switch up the meaning of dead ting instead of just saying it with her chest in what she means LOOOOL yet she so up front?”

“Amber calls Joanna dead ting and then turns it around to make Joanna the bad person?! Can’t cope with this childish behaviour,” said a third.

A fourth said: “Didn’t Amber call her a dead ting before they even had chance to say hi?? also she made it very obvious she was commenting on Joanna’s looks hun don’t try to lie, imo Amber and Micheal are as bad as each other”

There was an awkward start to the friendship date when both girls sat down in silence.

Joanna eventually initiated a conversation when she said: “I’m going to be the bigger person…”

Amber interrupted Joanna and replied: “The bigger person? What have I done?”

Joanna says “I don’t want there to be tension in the villa. I know that we’re not going to be the best of friends. But obviously this is the perfect opportunity to have it out and then we’ll squash it and be on good-ish terms in the villa.”

There was tension in the air

Amber wanted Joanna to know how it felt walking into the villa and finding out that Michael had recoupled with another girl.

She said: “It was a pretty s**t situation for me to walk in front of everybody by myself. To stand there and look at Michael coupled up with you. That wasn’t nice. It hurt my feelings a lot. Michael branded himself as this honest, open, straight-up person and he wasn’t”

Joanna replied: “Absolutely. I felt for you. But it’s so hard when people say their heads won’t be turned. We want to believe them.”

Love Island airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2
