Love Island bosses are desperately trying to cover up the real reason behind Sherif Lanre’s sudden exit to avoid another scandal, a TV insider has claimed.
The 20-year-old chef left the villa in mysterious circumstances this week, revealing in a statement that he had ‘broken a rule’ but refusing to say which promoting many wild theories from viewers .
According to a source close to the show, producers have demanded secrecy over the incident with security even working to stop Sherif’s family from speaking out about what really happened.
The telly insider told The Sun: “Love Island is a money making machine and ITV aren’t taking any chances in adding fuel to the fire by revealing any scandalous details.
“There is extra pressure this year and producers have reminded everyone taking part to be extra careful. All contestants have been told they can speak to anyone at any time if they feel under strain but have also been reminded of the rules they signed up to.”
A spokesperson for the ITV2 series told the Mirror: “Security is provided to assist families as part of our duty of care”.
After leaving Majorca, Sherif was spotted arriving back in London last night. He was pictured looking glum as he stepped out of a taxi shortly before his departure was subtly confirmed on Love Island.
Sherif wasn’t seen in the latest episode but his former partner Anna Vakili made his exit known by professing she was now single.
After being reunited with his mobile phone yesterday, Sherif posted on Instagram for the first time since leaving.
He told followers: “Thank you to everyone including my friends and family for the support I’ve come back to.
“I appreciate you all and hope I provided some good, positive moments during my time on Love island and for anyone wondering I’m all good.”
Sherif then followed up his statement with the tongue in cheek hashtag: ‘It is what it is’ – which has become a much-joked about phrase on the show – and ‘Better things to come.’
After the last line Sherif included a clenched fist emoji prompting some fans to speculate if it was his way of hinting there had been a fight.
Rumours have been rife since Sherif’s departure that he’d come to blows with co-star Anton Danyluk in the villa.
There have been many wild theories about what really happened to get Sherif booted from the villa after just nine days.
From secretly using his mobile phone, to masturbating to flashing, fans have been speculating which of the show’s rules he broke.
While the exact reason for his exit has yet to be revealed, a TV insider told the Mirror: “Sherif made a silly mistake and was immediately summoned to the Beach Hut – it wasn’t a criminal matter and he was spoken to and agreed to leave,” a Love Island insider told us.
“Sherif knew he had to leave immediately after being called to the Beach Hut.
“No security were involved.”
A source has since revealed to the Mirror that none of the remaining Love Island cast weren’t officially told the reason Sherif’s axing, despite it being serious enough for him to have been booted out of the villa immediately.
The news appears to confirm Sherif’s “silly mistake” was a solo act of rebellion, for which he was hauled into the Beach Hut for a serious talk with producers.
Love Island continues tonight on ITV2 at 9pm
