“Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more,” Nas X wrote on Twitter.

“But before this month ends I want y’all to listen closely to ‘C7osure’.”

The 20-year-old followed up with another tweet, along with artwork from his album featuring the colours of the rainbow and the words: “deadass thought i made it obvious.”

Another tweet was accompanied by an animated video soundtracked by the song, which is on his recently released ‘7’ EP.

The lyrics of ‘C7osure’ refer to liberation and freedom: “Ain’t no more actin’, man that forecast say I should just let me grow.

“No more red light for me, baby, only green, I gotta go.  Pack my past up in the back, oh, let my future take ahold

“This is what I gotta do, can’t be regrettin’ when I’m old.”

Elsewhere the song continues: “I know, I know, I know it don’t feel like it’s time. But I look back at this moment, I’ll see that I’m fine.

“I know, I know, I know it don’t feel like it’s time. I set boundaries for myself, it’s time to cross the line.”

The chart star – born Montero Lamar Hill – received a flood of support from his fans, including YouTuber James Charles who said: “Really happy for you dude.”

One of the singer’s followers added: “I’m so proud of you Nas diamond record, topping charts and making history for people like us.

“You are so brave & we supporting til the END.”

Old Town Road  – featuring Billy Ray Cyrus –  reached number one in the UK earlier this year and also spent 12 weeks at the top of the US Billboard 100.

The song broke records when it was released and was streamed 143m times in a week beating Drake’s previous record of 116.2m for his single ‘In My Feelings’ in 2018.

Legions of social media users then used the hit to soundtrack their ‘Yee Haw’ transformations – a viral video challenge in which an individual transforms into a cowboy or cowgirl.

On the back of his chart-topper the Atlanta-born star released another duet this time with megastar Cardi B called ‘Rodeo’ which was critically acclaimed by the music press.
