KFC unveils new VEGAN chicken burger – and it’s called the Imposter Rooster

KFC has launched a new vegan burger but you’ll need to act fast if you want to try it.

For four weeks only, the chicken shop has swapped meat fillets for ones made from Quorn and smothered in the Colonel’s Original Recipe mix of herbs and spices.

The KFC vegan burger is made with Quorn fillets

It’s the latest fast-food chain to take on the challenge of creating meals to meet the rising demand for food than isn’t made from animal products, such as meat, dairy and eggs.

McDonald’s is already trialling vegan chicken McNuggets in Norway, while Gregg’s launched it’s vegan sausage roll earlier this year.

KFC, which typically only serves fried chicken, claims the Imposter Burger “delivers on taste, crunch and succulence”.

Like a normal fillet burger, it’s topped with fresh iceberg lettuce and vegan mayonnaise in a bun.

Where can I get a an Imposter Burger?

THE vegan burger is only available at selected KFC stores. Here's where you can get yours:

  • Bristol – Fishponds
  • Bristol – Bradley Stoke
  • Bristol – Winterstoke Road
  • Bristol – Eastgate Retail Park
  • Bristol – Avonmeads Retail Park
  • Bristol – Shield Retail Park
  • Bristol – Keynsham

At £2.99, the vegan sandwich is cheaper than it’s chicken alternative, which costs £3.99.

Upgrading your meal to include a drink costs £3.49 compared to £4.99 for the fillet burger meal.

The meat-free option contains fewer calories too with just 450 compared to 475 in a standard fillet burger.

Don’t fancy a burger? No problem, because the chicken alternative is also available as a wrap with a drink for £3.99, while the salad box option with a drink costs £3.79.

Disappointingly, the burger won’t be available to buy from all 900 stores – you’ll need to head down to one of just 20 branches specifically chosen for the trial in Bristol, London and the Midlands. See the box above for the full list of branches.

The Imposter Burger is only available to buy for a limited time from June 17 but KFC says it will consider rolling it out permanently if it proves popular.

From June 15, the fast-food chain is also trialling a new veggie option called the Southern Fritter Stacker which will be available as a burger, a wrap and a ricebox.

We’ve asked KFC for the prices and calories on this new addition and we’ll update this story as soon as we get a response.

Earlier this year, we went behind the scenes at one KFC restaurant in central London to make the Colonel’s famous chicken so we can share with you how to recreate it at home.
