But today campaign group Fathers 4 Justice claimed George had sought help from them after Kerry refused him access to their daughter Dylan-Jorge.

Fathers 4 Justice founder Matt O’Connor tweeted: “Tragic news about the passing of George Kay who came to Fathers4Justice for help. He was heartbroken after @KerryKatona7 denied him access to daughter Dylan-Jorge. Katona’s not ‘heartbroken’. She has blood on her hands.”

Matt he later told The Sun: “The last time I spoke to George he was in a bad way.

“When fathers have problems they are banned from seeing their children whereas when mothers like Katie Price and Kerry Katona have problems, they get sympathy from the public and dealt with very differently.

“George was clearly unwell but the heartbreak of not seeing his daughter will have exacerbated the problem.

“He could have had supervised contact but they chose to cut him off instead.

“Your mental state is going to suffer. When you’re alive but can’t see your children it’s like a living bereavement. It’s a tragedy for his daughter.”

George met Kerry while working as her driver and they started dating in 2012. The former Atomic Kitten and George married in September 2014 – five months after 2004 I’m A Celebrity…. Get Me Out Of Here winner Kerry gave birth to their daughter Dylan-Jorge, now five.

In October 2015 Kerry announced she had split from the former Warrington Wolves winger after he allegedly assaulted her at home and was arrested. A friend of Kerry’s said: “She and George weren’t speaking anymore.

“She has no contact with him whatsoever. There was a restraining order out against him and he wasn’t allowed to go anywhere near her.”

A pal of Kerry’s denied she had banned George from seeing their daughter.

She said: “Kerry has never stopped anyone from seeing their kid.

“But a restraining order was in place and social services were involved which made things complicated.

“He was a violent man.”

Last night Kerry was understood to be travelling to Warrington to view George’s body and spend time comforting his family.
