Insurance giant Churchill is replacing its nodding dog mascot in a bid ‘to attract a modern, busy audience’

INSURANCE giant Churchill has caused a stir by replacing its nodding dog mascot with a silent animated version.

The CGI Churchie can be seen skateboarding down a street while a voiceover man tells viewers to: “Chill — Churchill.”

The company said the ad “evokes the feeling that being covered by Churchill offers”. They hope to attract a “modern, busy audience”.

But social media users mourned the loss of the old, Winston-Churchill-inspired bulldog — famed for saying “oh yes” — which first hit screens in 1996.

Joe Clark tweeted: “Goodbye childhood.”

Another asked what happened to “the puppet dog”, with the company saying: “Churchie hasn’t gone anywhere, he’s just got himself a new look.”
