A STEWARDESS plummeted 33,000ft when her plane was brought down by a terror bomb, making her survival nothing short of miraculous.

Vesna Vulovic, from Serbia, was working as a flight attendant on a Yugoslav Airlines DC-9 plane when a bomb brought the plane down in Czechoslovakia on 26 January 1972.

All of the other 27 passengers and crew on board died.

According to investigators, Vesna was trapped by a food cart in the plane’s tail when the bomb exploded.

NEAR-FULL RECOVERY

She plummeted back to earth in the tail in sub-zero temperatures, where she landed on a steep, snow-covered slope near a village, which is believed to have softened her fall.

She was found by woodsman Bruno Honke, who heard her screaming in the dark as the rest of the plane came crashing to the ground.

While investigators suspect the bomb had been planted in the plane during a stopover in Copenhagen, Denmark, nothing was ever proven and no arrests were ever made.

Following the horrific crash, Vesna fell into a coma for 10 days.

She suffered a fractured skull, two crushed vertebrae, and had broken her pelvis, ribs, and both legs.

She was temporarily paralysed from the waist down, but made a near-full recovery, and returned to work for the same airline, albeit in a desk-bound position.

NEVER REGAINED MEMORY

Speaking to the New York Times in 2008, Vesna recalled the nightmare: “I was broken, and the doctors put me back together again.

“Nobody ever expected me to live this long.”

Vesna entered the Guinness Book of Records in 1985 for the highest fall survived without a parachute.

She never regained any memory of the accident or of her rescue, and continued to fly as a passenger as a result.

I am like a cat, I have had nine lives

She told the paper: “People always want to sit next to me on the plane.”

“I am like a cat, I have had nine lives.”

Her story won her fame and a celebrity status in Serbia, which she channelled into political campaigning.

Vesna died in December 2016 at the age of 66.

According to Serbian state TV, she was found by her friends in her apartment in Belgrade.

MIRACULOUS SURVIVAL

More recently, a daredevil named Brad Guy survived a skydiving accident which saw him crash to the ground from 14,000ft in 2013.

After leaping out of a plane with his instructor, thrill-seeking Brad’s chute ripped after opening at 4,000ft and he was left spiralling helplessly towards the ground.

He told the Herald Sun: “We were shaking so much, it was like we were in a blender.”

Brad was reportedly thrown around so violently that his tightly-laced shoe came flying off.

At 500ft, his backup chute also failed after getting tangled in the shredded remains of the first one as he continued to plummet towards earth.

Somehow Brad miraculously survived the terrifying plunge after making a relatively soft landing in a lake at a golf club.

Brad’s fall was also broken by his instructor, who he was strapped to and who also survived.

Although he was hospitalised and left unable to move for a while, he was considered incredibly lucky to be alive by most.
