Hollyoaks confirms Cleo McQueen exit twist in special three-hander episode

Hollyoaks spoilers have confirmed Cleo McQueen’s exit from the Channel 4 soap, following actress Nadine Mulkerrin recently giving birth to a baby boy.

The star is currently on maternity leave, with her character now set to depart the village in a special three-hander episode.

Nadine was pregnant during filming for her dramatic exit scenes, as her character learns her partner Mitchell is in love with Scott’s drag alter-ego Anita.

Following a deadly accident in the village, Scott is left unconscious in hospital and in the latest episode, Cleo found her distressed boyfriend begging him to wake up.

A new clip released on the Hollyoaks Twitter shows powerful scenes, as Cleo confronts Mitchell over his affair.

Now, the soap has confirmed Thursday’s E4 episode will focus on the three characters as Cleo makes her exit from the show.

When Scott wakes up, Mitchell is forced by both he and Cleo to choose between them.

Cleo also realises Mitchell’s romance lies with Anita and not Scott, as he keeps referring to Scott as “her” when asked about him.

Mitchell eventually chooses Scott over Cleo in the heartbreaking scenes, leading to her decision to go.

She also recalls her past romances with Harry Thompson and Joel Dexter – played by off-screen boyfriend Rory Douglas-Speed – and decides she deserves so much more.

He begs her not to expose his new romance to the village, but will she keep it a secret, and how will Scott react to the twist?

Speaking about the scenes, actress Nadine said: “It’s a coming out story about how hard it is to embrace who you truly are and not lie to yourself about who you are.

“Hollyoaks does that very well and obviously Imran [who plays Mitchell] is a brilliant actor and he’s just done it fantastically.”

Imran Adams added: “It’s not just about not being able to come out because of pride or ego or image, it’s because of his culture, religion, family, upbringing, and also because of a sense that he owes his granddad so much based on how much he has provided for him.”

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6:30pm on Channel 4, with the next episode at 7pm on E4.
