Holly Willoughby has thanked This Morning viewers for sticking around during ‘this new way of broadcasting’ before bidding them farewell ahead of her summer break. 

The presenter, 39, joined her co-host Philip Schofield, 58, in an emotional farewell on Friday’s episode of the ITV show. 

Following a look-back at the series’ most emotional and hilarious moments, the duo paid tribute to the show’s crew for keeping the programme on air during the lockdown, with many still working hard from home.

And on Saturday, Holly took to her Instagram to write a long heartfelt message to loyal viewers.

Alongside a picture of a neon sign reading, ‘Thank you’, she wrote: ‘Thank you …. thank you for staying with us over the last 109 days… 

‘When we began this new way of broadcasting, we had no idea how long we would be able to come in, or whether it would be our last time broadcasting from the studio during lockdown.

‘The team have adapted and had plan a, b, c and d in place just in case…Some days we didn’t know If we’d have the content to fill the show, but somehow we always managed it and even had a few laughs along the way. 

‘You see us, but we feel that you are there with us, every single show…

‘This Morning holds a mirror up to life and reflects the mood of what we are all feeling. I can’t thank our team enough!

‘The production team who worked from home, crew, the TM family and fellow presenters who are consistently brilliant, but mostly to Phillip Schofield for metaphorically holding my hand and reliably being socially distanced shoulder to shoulder with me… 

‘What a strange time… Feeling incredibly grateful … Huge love, thank you again… See you in September.’

On Friday’s episode Phillip said: ‘We often talk about our This Morning family on screen but that family genuinely extends behind the scenes and we’ve all kept each other going through this very tough time.

During the summer break Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford will present This Morning from Mondays to Thursdays, with guest hosts appearing on Fridays.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
