Heather Watson secured a semi-final spot at the Tianjin Open by beating Poland’s Magda Linette after a dramatic third set tie break.
Watson, who won 7-5 6-7 7-6, has struggled this year and was already playing in her first quarter-final since January 2018.
But the 27-year-old Brit showed her class as she overcame the Pole in three sets.
Watson was forced to save 4 match points on the way to her win in 3 hours two minutes.
Watson, who hasn’t been beyond the second round in a Grand Slam this season, picked up her biggest win of the season in reaching the last four.
She will face either Dayana Yastremska or Veronika Kudermetova in the next round.
