GOODWOOD is a real teaser for the weekend and I’ve got a couple of fancies through their Friday card.
The Listed heat at 3.30 is by far the best race of the day and it’s where we go for the NAP.
For the second day in a row I’m taking on a John Gosden favourite.
This time I’m with FIFTH POSITION (Goodwood, 3.30, NAP) for the Roger Varian team, with the yard showing no signs of ending their red-hot form.
It looks wide open, but Varian’s three-year-old was mightily impressive when battling back to beat Space Blues at Nottingham last time.
That form has been franked nicely – the runner-up hosed up at York and is already rated 103.

He looked to relish every step of that battle up the home straight, and this step up in trip looks what he needs already, despite also possessing plenty of speed in his pedigree.
Private Secretary will be all the rage for Frankie and Gosden, but he has questions to answer and it’s strange he’s suddenly been taken out of the Derby.
At the forecast odds Fifth Position is my bet and he could even be an each-way price if you’re snappy.
In the previous race DESIROUS (Goodwood, 2.55) looked a horse to follow last season and could be smart this summer.
Her form is very taking – runs behind Qabala and Dandhu read well – and an opening mark of 82 looks generous.
She was still green after a few runs last year, and hopefully she’s taken a step forwards over the winter.
She will likely be the favourite and is worse off with Pennywhistle who she only just beat back in October. But plenty went wrong that day at Kempton and she looked beat a long way from home before cracking on in good style.
