FREDDIE Starr’s carer has revealed the comic proposed to her before he died last month.
Nelly Georgieva, 46, looked after the 76 year old at his home on the Costa del Sol and the pair developed feelings for each other.
She said the star – who had been married five times – asked her to marry him four months after they met.
But despite loving him and even having his initials tattooed behind her right ear, she couldn’t bring herself to say yes.
“WE LOVED EACH OTHER”
She told The Sunday Mirror: “I loved him and he loved me. We were best friends. We laughed together and we cried together.”
Nelly, from Bulgaria, was hired by the comedian to clean his home and their friendship quickly developed into a loving relationship.
She added: “After four months he asked me to marry him. He was scared I’d leave him.

“I said I’d been married once and didn’t want to again. He’d say, ‘Where were you 15 years ago?’
“He loved me but there was nothing sexual. He would hug and kiss my hand but never tried anything else.”
Nelly, who found his body in his £170,000 apartment last month after he suffered a heart attack, travelled to Liverpool for his funeral on Thursday.
His daughter joined mourners as they broke out in applause when the comic’s coffin – engraved with the words “Return to Sender” – left his funeral.
The entertainer was one of the biggest stars of the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s after being discovered on Opportunity Knocks.
Starr was known for his wacky routines on stage.
He would sing songs sped up to make them sound like a tape being fast forwarded.

The comic impersonated Adolf Hitler playing football and doing a Nazi salute, and he also impersonated Mick Jagger in front of the Royal Family in 1970.
In 2011, he took part in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here just a year after recovering from quadruple bypass surgery following a heart attack.
But he left the jungle due to ill health and one of his last performances was a Elvis impression at a bar in Fuengirola.
