Emmy Rossum and her writer–director husband Sam Esmail enjoy breakfast outdoors with masks and face shields to protect against the coronavirus
Emmy Rossum wasn’t taking any chances with dining in public on Saturday as she wore a face shield to a breakfast dat with her husband Sam Esmail.
The 33-year-old Shameless star was spotted in Los Angeles wearing a navy blue button-up dress that was cinched tightly around her waist.
The actress wore comfortable white sandals and had a white mask with blue floral designs.
Safety first: Emmy Rossum, 33, wasn’t taking any chances as she wore a face shield over her mask while grabbing breakfast in LA on Saturday with her husband Sam Esmail, 42
Sam, 42, was dressed more casually in a black T-shirt, and he sported the nearly white head of hair he debuted amid the pandemic.
He and Emmy both shared iced coffees, before taking them to go.
The face shields allowed the couple to converse and eat freely with less concern of coronavirus particles, though they were quick to put their masks back on when they finished eating.
Suited up: Emmy wore a navy blue dress while Sam had a simple black T-shirt on. They kept their face shields down even when they removed their masks to eat
Seeing ahead: Back in January, Emmy joked that she’d need protective gear to get through 2020, and her face shield was the closet approximation to the photo yet
Back in January, Emmy joked about having a rough 2019 by wearing a ski helmet, goggle and a white mask.
‘Heading into 2020, this level of protection seems smart,’ she wrote at the time.
By the end of June, she was reminded of the forward-looking post.
‘Well this was unfortunately prescient,’ she joked on Twitter at the end of June, before urging her followers to wear masks.
Despite being so far ahead of the curve, Saturday appeared to be the first time she was pictured wearing a face shield.
Engaged: The politically engaged actress has been urging her fans to register to vote, and Sam wrote on Twitter that she cried watching former President Barack Obama speak at the DNC
Emmy has kept a low profile on social media in recent weeks, most recently posting late last month about a women’s black and white Instagram photo challenge that tarnished a movement to post black and white photos of Turkish women who had been murdered.
The Phantom Of The Opera star also shared two posts on July 26 urging her followers to help their friends register to vote.
Her husband Sam, who created, wrote and directed Mr. Robot, tweeted on Wednesday that Emmy had ‘started crying during the Obama speech’ at the Democratic National Convention and ‘turned to me and said “I miss having a president.”‘
‘I really love her,’ he added.
Coming soon: The Shameless star is starring in an upcoming Peacock series about the LA fixture Angelyne, which was developed by Sam, though the pandemic put it on hold

Like most of her Hollywood colleagues, Emmy’s professional life has been on hold amid the film industry’s coronavirus pandemic shutdown.
Just prior to the shutdown, she was filming the Peacock limited series Angelyne, based on the mysterious LA fixture who became famous in the 1980s for plastering her visage and signature pink corvette on billboards.
The project teamed Emmy with her husband, who developed it, though production was halted on Angelyne along with most other NBC shows, and a premiere date hasn’t been announced.
