Distraught Emmerdale viewers were left in tears tonight after Lisa Dingle DIED alone.
Actress Jane Cox, who has played Lisa for 23 years, bowed out of the ITV soap in heartbreaking scenes.
After marrying Zak in an emotional ceremony, which he walked out of before returning, the Dingle family celebrated in The Woolpack.
Lisa wanted to get changed and excused herself from the party, telling her loved ones that she would “be right back” and “see them soon”.
But Lisa never got to see them again as she tragically died while taking a rest on the sofa with Monty the dog.
Lisa jokingly warned the pet pooch not to let her fall asleep – but she sadly passed away.
Zak popped home to check on Lisa, but initially didn’t realise that she had died because he could only see the back of her head.
Monty kept jumping up as if to warn Zak as he continued talking to his wife.
The action cut to the wedding guests partying outside the pub – unaware Lisa was dead.
He said: “You’ll know that I’m doing my best for you and you’ll know it’s because I love you.
“And you’ll know that for sure as I’ll tell you every day – starting from now. I love you Lisa.”
Suddenly he realised Lisa was not moving and touched her face.
Realising that the love of his life and mother of his child was no longer alive, Zak burst into tears
“Oh no. This is too soon, Lisa,” cried Zak during the emotional ending.
Devastated Emmerdale fans took to Twitter after watching Lisa’s heartbreaking death scenes.
One viewer said: “Oh God my hearts breaking.”
“Nooooooooooo Lisa … why have they done this on their wedding day,” added another.
A third said: “We all knew it was coming but Zak finding out Lisa has gone was heartbreaking”
Actress Jane has explained the reason behind her decision to leave the Dales.
She told The Mirror: “I know if I hadn’t have left now I never would. Life is such an exciting thing, you never know what is around the corner. It was a big decision but I know it is the right thing.
“It is completely life-changing. But I decided I wanted to do different things.
“My mum died a couple of years ago, so it does make you think a lot about the big things in life. As you get older life feels shorter – although of course I am going to live to 150!”
*Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV at 7pm with an extra episode on Thursdays at 9pm
