Emmerdale's Dan fears he'll never walk again as doctor confirms major injury

Emmerdale aired worrying scenes for Dan Spencer after he was rushed to hospital during Thursday’s double-bill of the ITV soap – with the show recently confirming a new “life-changing” storyline for the character.

After suffering an allergic reaction, he sustained further injury when he fell and injured his back while trying to get help.

Eventually he was found by Brenda Walker and Eric Pollard, who called an ambulance and did what they could to save him.

Brenda also shocked fans though, when she was seen hiding evidence that could possibly explain the allergic reaction – wanting to stay out of trouble.

Dan had eaten one of the wraps she was making at the café before his throat closed up and he became unwell.

But doctors were worried when they learned Dan couldn’t feel his feet or his legs after the fall at the garage.

They decided to run some tests and scans to find the cause.

As Dan asked the doctor for any news, he was shocked when they told him he’d suffered a major injury and needed surgery urgently.

Doctors told Dan he needed surgery

The doctor said: “We identified a burst fracture, a vertebrate.

“One interlocking bone in your spine has fractured into three pieces. You’re going to need surgery.”

As Dan feared the worst ahead of the operation, he began to question if he’d be left paralysed.

The doctor went on: “There’s a chance it could destabilise the rest of your spine,” before adding that they needed to “operate and fix it, sooner rather than later”.

Dan was visibly concerned about the news, and began asking if he would ever walk again, and if he’d be able to get the feeling back.

The doctor did her best to reassure him, but did confirm the recovery would depend on what “damage had already been done”.

Dan and his loved ones reeled from the update – but will he be okay?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
