Emmerdale viewers were heartbroken after Friday’s episode of the ITV soap, as they witnessed the fallout of Robert Sugden’s arrest.
Robert and husband Aaron Dingle, known as Robron by loyal fans, were torn apart as he was charged with the murder of Lee after their recent fight.
Lee was attacked by Robert after he raped his sister Victoria, with her falling pregnant – and as the two men clashed, he punched Lee who later died from his injuries.
In the latest episode, Aaron was distraught as he waited for news on Robert, who was being interrogated by police following their attempt to go on the run.
Robert had had a change of heart and gave himself up, something Aaron wasn’t quite ready to forgive.
As DS Wise grilled Robert, he made it clear the character played by actor Ryan Hawley was now facing a murder charge.
With this, Robert knew he faced years behind bars and might never get out of prison, and definitely wouldn’t be returning home any time soon.
It’s then that his solicitor advised he pleaded guilty to the murder charge.
But with this, Robert would skip a trial asides his hearing next week where he would submit his plea.
He would also go straight to prison and begin his sentence immediately, something the solicitor claimed would be in his favour.
But viewers were distraught by this, knowing that unless the show aired prison scenes, which were unlikely given Ryan quit the role, he wouldn’t be on screen for his sentence.
Not only that but without a trial, he wouldn’t have future scenes down the line and would not return to the village.
Meanwhile, there was still hope for Aaron or so he believed as he vowed to break his husband out of prison.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
