Daniel James injury: Man Utd star insists he wasn’t knocked out during Wales draw | Football | Sport

Daniel James insists he did not get knocked out during Wales’s Euro 2020 qualification clash with Croatia.

Manchester United ace James appeared to be out cold after a nasty-looking collision with Domagoj Vida as both went for a high ball.

Medics rushed to James’s aid with the midfielder not moving for a couple of seconds as he lay on the ground.

Fans were shocked to see James continue after the blow, with many suspecting the youngster to have been concussed.

However the man himself insisted he was not knocked out in the collision and was okay to carry on.

“There was a few tackles flying in but you always expect it in these games,” he said.

“I’m fine. I think he just caught me in the head but I didn’t get knocked out fortunately.”

Wales boss Ryan Giggs even suggested that James had just been performing for the cameras.

“Dan James went down and stayed down. A bit of acting really,” he said.

“The medical staff went over. He was compos mentis. We did tests at half-time and he passed them. He’s fine.”

Gareth Bale’s 45th minute goal earned Wales a point after Nikola Vlasic opened the scoring on nine minutes in Cardiff.

And Giggs was happy with the performance.

“I’m very pleased,” he said. “I thought the concentration was superb.

“The work ethic was amazing – team spirit, staying together against a very good team.

“We’ve got to win both games and rely on others. But we’re in it. I wanted to be in it after these games.

“We’ve shown our quality and concentration in these games.”

Wales travel to Azerbaijan on Wednesday for their next qualifier.
