Coronation Street addressed the fan theory that Jim McDonald was the real father of Emma Brooker on Wednesday.

Emma was left devastated on Monday, when her dad passed away following a battle with cancer.

But she was left in for a huge shock when he dropped the news he wasn’t her real father, later confirmed by her mother.

Emma’s mum was revealed to be former Corrie character Fiona Middleton during the episode, and then came the realisation from Audrey Roberts that Emma’s real dad could be Steve McDonald.

Viewers had other ideas though, after recalling Fiona had a fling with Steve’s dad Jim, and they wondered if he could be Emma’s true dad.

Fiona cheated on Steve with Jim back in 1997, so it isn’t likely that Emma is his daughter because she was conceived in 1998.

But this didn’t stop fans thinking this is the case, with one viewer tweeting: “Suppose Jim McDonald is her dad and not Steve and it’s a red herring.”

Now, the soap has addressed the theory in new scenes, with him being ruled out as the father.

Liz McDonald dropped the bombshell on Steve that he was likely to be Emma’s real dad, seeing as though they were dating when Emma was likely conceived.

Steve then said there had to be another explanation, to which Liz was all ears.

Steve spoke of ex Fiona to secret daughter Emma

He said: “I dunno, maybe Emma was early, maybe she was late, maybe Fiona slept with someone else after she dumped me, my dad for all we know.”

Liz ruled this out though, confirming: “No, I’m pleased to say it’s definitely not him.”

Steve quizzed why Fiona wouldn’t have told him about Emma if he was really her dad, as he let the bombshell sink in.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
