Australian actress Cate Blanchett and her husband, Andrew Upton, are selling their Sydney home for $12million.

And the notoriously private actress has given fans a rare glimpse of her luxurious five-bedroom apartment in the heart of the CBD, which she purchased for $8million in 2015.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the property has attracted considerable interest online, having been viewed more than 3,000 times after it was listed 12 days ago.

Located in the historic Astor building, the two-storey apartment offers panoramic views of some of the city’s most famous landmarks, including Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and the Royal Botanic Garden.

The first floor boasts open plan living, including a lounge, a generous kitchen and dining area, and two bedrooms.

The lounge room is crammed full of books and art pieces, giving the opulent home a lived-in and cosy feeling.

Cate, who won Oscars for her roles in The Aviator in 2005 and Blue Jasmine in 2014, proudly displays one of the statues on a side table, along with other awards from her stellar career.

A chef’s delight, the modern kitchen includes on-trend stainless steel appliances and finishes, and offers plenty of storage and bench space for food preparation.

Offering plenty of boasting rights to the new owner, the home also previously belonged to Barry Humphries, also known as Dame Edna, who illegally combined three units in the historic building 35 years ago.

Cate and Andrew bought the apartment from businessman and host of The Apprentice Australia Mark Bouris, who also lived in the dwelling.

It is the last Australian property owned by the couple who sold their Berowra Creek holiday home in December, just three weeks after it was placed on the property market. 

Cate and Andrew have relocated to the United Kingdom where they splashed out on an English Manor dubbed Highwell House, in East Sussex, for £3million ($5.7m AUD).

The couple who wed in 1997 are proud parents to sons Dashiell, 17, Roman, 15, Ignatius, 11, and daughter Edith, five.
