Caretaker sacked after locking terrified lad in a school loo amid string of blunders

A BUNGLING caretaker was sacked after locking a terrified lad in a loo.

Kim Baker, 63, secured the toilets without properly checking them, an employment tribunal heard.

The boy’s dad launched a frantic search when his son failed to return from an after-school club.

He and an office worker with spare keys eventually found the lad at St Thomas More Catholic school in Chatham, Kent.

Fifteen months earlier Mr Baker received a written warning after locking a teacher in a staff loo.

She was freed only after triggering alarms.

The caretaker received a further warning over the lad.

He eventually got the boot in August 2017 after returning late from authorised leave to play piano at a funeral.

He was due back to unlock the school gates at 3.05pm but did not return until 4.25pm.

He claimed unfair dismissal but a judge at Ashford tribunal centre ruled against him.

Mr Baker insisted to The Sun on Sunday: “The funeral overran. I couldn’t just play for ten minutes.

“The next day I was up before HR for taking unauthorised leave. I feel bitter.”
