Conflict and drama were at the top of producers’ wish lists for the first week of The Block.
But they were disappointed when everyone seemed to be getting along, according to a tradie working on the reality reno show.
“Everyone loved each other in the first week,” carpenter Jason Charles, of Charles Bros Building Contractors, said.
“Producers were saying it was too good.
“Even (site foremen) Dan and Keith were actually asking us to fight back, but we didn’t have any arguments with them.”

Mr Charles and his foreman, Steve Richie, initially answered a call from online tradie marketplace Hipages to help with the demolition of the former Oslo Hotel in St Kilda.
But when they heard stylish New South Wales grandads Mitch and Mark didn’t have a builder, they stayed on.
It was Mr Charles’ first appearance on The Block, but he said he’d applied for the show before.
“I wanted to go on as a contestant. But this way was better, as I got to go home of a night,” he said.
Mr Charles said Mitch and Mark, on the other hand, didn’t get any sleep the night before the first room — the guest bedroom — was revealed.
He said everyone on site felt like “fish out of water” in the “pretty full on” first week.
“Looking back, it is amazing to see what we got done in a week,” he said.
“We were all trying to get on our feet and work out the best way to work with trades and Keith and Dan. It was very strategic, the way you had to work.
“As long as you did it their way, they are there to make sure it is done correctly.”
Mr Charles was full of praise for Mark and Mitch, labelling them “the hardest workers”.
Ensuites to complement the guest bedrooms will be revealed this Sunday night.
