BARCELONA ‘spoke’ with Tottenham defender Danny Rose about a potential transfer, according to reports.
But the Catalan giants have instead turned their attention to targets in the Bundesliga.
According to Sport in Spain, Barca are desperate to bring in a left-back this summer and were in contact with the Spurs man.
They want to provide added competition for Jordi Alba, who has carried the burden of that position almost single-handedly since replacing Eric Abidal in 2012.
Rose, 29, is Spurs’ longest-serving player but is expected to leave the club before the transfer window closes.
Already transfer listed, he was excused from the club’s pre-season tour to China in order to “explore prospective opportunities with other clubs”.
Paris Saint-Germain are also thought to be interested in the England international, who is valued at around £20m.
He is also a target for Schalke while a shock romantic return to Leeds could be on the cards.
Ben Davies put pen to paper on a new five-year deal earlier this month while Fulham star Ryan Sessegnon remains a transfer target, meaning Rose’s time looks to be up after 12 years.
But while Barcelona allegedly were in touch with Rose, he is not their prime target.
The report suggests Augsburg’s Philipp Max is their No1 target and would cost around £18m.

However, Liverpool are also understood to be after the German to push Andrew Robertson.
Jerome Roussillon of Wolfsburg is also thought to be on their radar as a cheaper alternative to Real Betis man Junior Firpo, who is valued at more than £30m by his club.
It is also thought that Raphael Guerreiro was a target at one stage but Barca have decided not to pursue a deal for the Borussia Dortmund and Portugal star.
