ARSENAL whizkid Gabriel Martinelli is wanted by Brazil and Italy after a couple of eye-catching performances.
The talented teen scored a brace against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup before following it up with another double in the Europa League win over Standard Liege.
He was born near Sao Paolo but qualifies for an Italian passport through his grandfather and could represent the Azzurri.
Goal reports that the Italian Football Federation has made contact with the forward’s representatives to sound him out about a switch.
Italy coach Roberto Mancini appeared to play down the talk yesterday – urging fans not to get ahead of themselves.
He said: “As for Martinelli, it’s not so easy to apply to play for Italy.
“We need to wait for players with two passports. In the meantime, we’ll continue to exchange [Ciro] Immobile with [Andrea] Belotti.”
Martinelli, 18, was called up to Brazil’s Copa America squad this year as Tite wanted to give several youngsters a chance to gain experience with the national side.
But he is yet to make an appearance and has a wealth of talent standing between him and a spot in the XI.
