A socialite has revealed she accepted a £250,000 ($A469,000) engagement ring – despite turning down the man’s proposal.
Amanda Cronin, a London-based model, socialite, brand ambassador and the founder of the brand Forever Young, was given the Van Cleef & Arpels sparkler by a handsome stranger – who first propositioned her in a New York hotel.
The globetrotting Instagram model, who’s known for having “the longest legs in Belgravia”, claims her suitor is “one of the most powerful men in Northern Europe”.
“I noticed a very good-looking older man making eye contact. He gave me his number and first name,” she told the Mail.
Cronin, who has 51,900 followers, says she texted him the next day, and her phone immediately “blew up with pages of love texts”.
But she soon discovered who the man was – and that he had a wife.
“I said I can’t possibly meet him. He said he was prepared to dissolve his marriage immediately and then he proposed,” she added.
“Eventually, we met up in London and he proposed again, this time with a 10-carat ring. But it was getting all too weird.
“I offered him the ring back but he said it would make him happy if I kept it.”
Cronin is dating a Canadian man – although she’s been coy about announcing his name.
Photos and videos on her Instagram show her wearing the enormous sparkler.
To put it into context, the £250,000 gem costs more than both Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski’s rocks – and almost as much as Meghan Markle’s.
