AMAZON’S Lord of the Rings may end up becoming the most expensive series of all time.
With such an exorbitant price-tag, plot details about the show are scarce but rumours have now emerged that the series will follow a young Aragon. Here’s all you need to know…
New Line Amazon’s Lord of the Rings is rumoured to focus on a young Aragorn
When is Amazon’s Lord of the Rings released?
As of yet, there has been no official announcement on an expected release date.
The deal Amazon signed with J.R.R Tolkein’s estate, publisher HarperCollins and New Line Cinema means they are required to begin production within two years.
This means that fans can expect the series to land by November 2019 at the very least.
The show will be available to all Amazon Prime subscribers as well as joining the existing Amazon Prime Original lineup.
New Line Aragorn was famously played by Viggo Mortensen in the original Oscar-winning trilogy
Who’s in the cast with Viggo Mortensen?
Casting details have yet to be confirmed however there are plenty of rumours surrounding the returns of original characters.
Amazon are still chasing Peter Jackson, director of the original The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, for an exec-producer role.
However, due to the story’s timeline, fan site TheOneRing.net explained it’s unlikely that the actor, 59, will reprise his role as the character.
While Sir Ian McKellen seems keen to rejoin the franchise, he won’t be joined by Andy Serkis’ Sméagol/Gollum again: “I don’t know if I’d want to go back into the Lord of the Rings realm.”
“I feel like I’ve spent a large chunk of my life doing that. I’ll say good luck and I think fresh eyes are probably a good thing.”
