A CRUNCH red-on-blue tackle has left a Tory MP with a David Beckham-style injury after turning out for the women’s Parliamentary football team.
Ministerial aide Rachel Maclean is walking with a protective boot after being told by doctors she had broken her fifth metatarsal.
Rachel Maclean will now be walking with a protective walking boot for up to eight weeks
The freak incident took place in a training session when Labour MP Alison McGovern and the Tory challenged for the ball.
A source said Liverpool fan McGovern was left “mortified” when she later found out the about the injury.
Maclean was walking on her broken foot for a week before she went for an x-ray and will now be walking with a protective walking boot for up to eight weeks.
It follows ex-England skipper Becks who faced a race against time to be fit for the World Cup in 2002 after breaking his second metatarsal in a Champions League game.
Alison and Rachel are members of the Women’s Parliamentary Football Team
Wayne Rooney also recovered to play in Euro 2004 after fracturing his fourth metatarsal in his right foot weeks before the tournament.
A Westminster source last night said: “It’s the same type of injury that David Beckham suffered – we’re hoping she is back in training as soon as possible.
“It was painful for Rachel she was walking around on it for a week until she went to get it looked at.
“All the players were getting stuck and no one was holding back. Alison was mortified when she found out and has sent Rachel a bunch of flowers.”
