Can Manchester United and Chelsea sign a player and then play them in the FA Cup final?

AS much as they might want to, neither United or Chelsea will be able to bring in new players before this Saturday’s final.

FA rules mean that their squads are already locked in for this season, which still hasn’t officially ended despite the window being opened.

Players bought between May 17 and July 1 will only become registered at their new club once the new term begins, which is more than six weeks away.

The transfer window has been brought forward this year and will close at the far earlier date of August 9.
